Credits
Credits are Metrognome's internal prepaid currency. One credit equals one dollar. Credits can only be used for hourly reservations (studios and equipment) — they cannot be used for monthly lockouts.
Purchasing
Credits are sold in packages. Two purchase types:
- One-time — member buys a package at full price ($1/credit)
- Subscription — member subscribes to a recurring monthly package at a 10% discount. A fresh balance is created each billing cycle. Only one active credit subscription per member at a time.
ACH purchasers receive an additional discount equal to the savings from lower processing fees, rounded down to the nearest dollar. Stripe promotion codes can also be applied at checkout.
Expiration
Every credit balance expires 18 months from purchase. Each purchase creates its own balance with its own expiration date — expiration is per-purchase, not per-account. Expired balances cannot be spent.
Spending
When a member pays for an hourly reservation with credits, balances are consumed in order of soonest expiration first. If a single balance doesn't cover the full cost, multiple balances are drawn from in the same transaction.
Organization Credits
Members who belong to an organization draw from the organization's credit pool first, then fall back to their personal balance if the org pool is insufficient. Both sources are combined in expiration order during a single booking.
Cancellation and Restoration
When an hourly reservation paid with credits is cancelled with a refund (at least 24 hours before start), credits are restored to the exact balance they were originally drawn from. The Stripe transfer to the location is also reversed.
Credits are not restored for non-refundable cancellations (within 24 hours of start) or for completed reservations.
Credit Transfers to Locations
When credits are spent at a location, the dollar equivalent is transferred to the location's connected Stripe account. Metrognome retains a 10% platform fee — the location receives 90% of the credit value. Transfers retry up to 5 times with exponential backoff on failure.
What Credits Cannot Do
- Cannot pay for monthly lockouts — lockouts require card or ACH via Stripe subscription
- Cannot be transferred between members
- Cannot be cashed out
- Expired credits cannot be restored or extended (except by admin manual intervention)
